PlayStation Abandons Mandatory PSN Account Linking for Helldivers 2 Players
Sony Interactive Entertainment says, "We've heard your feedback", in response to the fury from fans. PlayStation has reverted to its Helldivers 2 PSN account requirement. It is now back to the controversial policy after a long weekend of protests, which saw hundreds of negative reviews that were negative and later made available in different Sony Steam games.
“Helldivers fans – we’ve heard your comments on our Helldivers 2. Account linking updates. The update on May 6 that would require Steam as well as PlayStation Network linking of accounts for all new players as well as for current players starting May 30, won’t be going ahead,” PlayStation posted on its official account.
“We’re still learning about what’s the best option for PC players, and your feedback has been extremely valuable. Thank you again for your continuous dedication to Helldivers 2, and we’ll keep you up-to-date on any plans. “
PlayStation’s decision implies that Helldivers 2 players on Steam do not require an account on PSN login to be able to access the game. This controversial rule could result in new players having to sign up to create logins starting this week. It has also resulted in Helldivers 2 being delisted in more than 177 countries. In one instance, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt, who was clearly furious over the issue, tweeted, “Waking in the bright sunshine of yesterday being replaced by an unwelcome drizzle and chilling winds make me think about the way I spent my time the few times everything was just perfect. “
Pilestedt declared on Sunday that Arrowhead was “talking solutions” with PlayStation, which could have led to the decision not to proceed following the updated policy. Pilestedt added additional information about the decisions taken on the back of the scene, including the decision was his decision to stop accounts when the game was launched in order to let players enjoy games.
- There’s a role to play. I’m not entirely blameless in this situation I decided to stop the accounts before the launch to allow players to take part on the field. I did not make sure that gamers were aware of the obligation, and we did not discuss the issue in sufficient detail.
- We were aware of for six months before …– Pilestedt (@Pilestedt) May 5 5, 2024.
“I did not ensure players were aware of the requirement and we didn’t talk about it enough,” the CEO wrote, noting the company’s actions are “not blameless” in the controversy. “We knew for approximately six months prior to the launch date that it was going to be a mandatory requirement for all online PS titles. “
Much like he was throughout the Helldivers 2’s release, Pilestedt was a constant presence on social media platforms, frequently giving fans apologies and even stating that”I “just would like to create an enjoyable game. ” Helldivers 2’s latest ratings on Steam have been rated “Overwhelmingly negative,” dropping the rating to a mixed rating due to escalating reviews that exploded, resulting in more than 200 thousand negative feedbacks.
Following the launch of PlayStation the fans expressed hope that the next games wouldn’t be affected due to the obligation. Others advised gamers not to get angry about Arrowhead.
“They ended up in the crossfire for this, and it wasn’t fair to them as they were doing what they were contractually obligated to do,” one fan wrote.
The decision of PlayStation means the focus will now shift back to the game that was, to date, one of the most popular games of 2024 due to its unique approach to live-streamed narrative. The game’s popularity has led to it selling over 8 million copies by March 2024.
