Classic Rockstar Game Might Join Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Premium

Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers might have another big addition to look forward to in the near future, as recent rumors indicate that the original Red Dead Redemption could be headed to the two subscription services. It's not often that Microsoft and Sony end up adding the same exact game to the libraries of their respective services at around the same time, so the inclusion of a beloved Rockstar game like Red Dead Redemption would be a welcome surprise for players on both platforms.

Though the release of their games on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus is somewhat infrequent compared to other developers, Rockstar does, nonetheless, have a history with Microsoft and Sony’s flagship subscription services. Just recently, for instance, Red Dead Redemption 2 was added as part of May 2024’s PlayStation Plus lineup after being removed from the service two years ago. Xbox Game Pass subscribers had access to RDR2 for a brief time in 2020, in addition to other Rockstar titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition. And now, according to some recently unveiled information, it seems like the original Red Dead Redemption could be the next game from Rockstar to make its debut on both PS Plus and Game Pass.

As spotted by Reddit user Timtendo12, who posted his findings on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, a line of code has been discovered within the official Rockstar website that hints at the original Red Dead Redemption being added to PS Plus Premium and Xbox Game Pass in the future. An unused description that was recently added to RDR1’s about page states that Rockstar’s beloved 2010 action-adventure game “is available for Nintendo Switch, PS3, PlayStation Plus Premium for PS4 and PS5, Xbox 360, and Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.”

Red Dead Redemption has been released on nearly all the platforms listed in the description, except for Microsoft and Sony’s subscription services. Therefore, unless this line of code was written accidentally by some Rockstar employee, then there’s a good chance that RDR1 will launch onto both PS Plus Premium and Game Pass sooner rather than later. It’s also important to note that such an announcement would coincide with the release of the original Red Dead Redemption on GTA+ earlier this year, so it wouldn’t be farfetched for Rockstar to bring the game to more subscription services.

With a Game Pass and PS Plus Release, Red Dead Redemption Could Be Available to More Players Than Ever Before

For years, Rockstar’s seminal 2010 open world cowboy game was only available on PS3, Xbox 360, and modern Xbox consoles via backwards compatibility, severely limiting the number of people that could access it on current hardware. Fortunately, though, Rockstar eventually ported Red Dead Redemption and its standalone expansion Undead Nightmare to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in late 2023. And with rumors of a Red Dead Redemption PC port incoming, alongside a potential Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Premium drop, it seems like this classic Rockstar Games title may soon be available to more players than ever before.
